Static Magic: Design Aesthetics of the American Security State

$15.00

By Paul Morgan

In 1974, America’s National Security Agency began publishing an internal publication called Cryptolog. Written, designed, and printed by NSA employees, the top secret project sought to address all disciplines within the cryptological sphere, especially in how they could benefit the NSA. 136 issues were produced before production abruptly ended in 1997.

Static Magic collects headers, graphics, and other visual detritus from Cryptolog’s two decade run—a kaleidoscopic view into the design sensibilities of America’s late-20th Century security state.
